Stab the Hens

“All I have to do is force names onto what is there, the same as I do when I forcea my knife into the stomach of a hen.”

This play, written by a contemporary Scottish playwright David Harrower, is set in rural surroundings. Its main ideas are relationships between men and women, education, patriarchal society, prejudice, or the critical eye of the village which is still present. The young woman, who is married to the village “pony”, learns to name the surrounding things. She meets a miller who is on fringe of the society because of his education. The process of cognition necessarily influences her marriage.

The Life Story of Puppets

This performance was created with metaphorical acting as a part of education. It is an etude, improvised on the basis of Pinocchio (by Collodi) and The Golden Key/Buratino (by Tolstoy).

The story depicts a conflict between creator and dictator. Buratino- a puppet- was made as a free-thinking, spiritual being. When it comes to The Puppet Land, where the robot-dictator Karabas Barabas rules, he almost causes revolution in the country. He has the opportunity to transform himself, humanize himself and change his point of view on the world.

In Solitude

In Solitude is a director's variation on the Bernard-Marie Koltés play In the Solitude of Cotton Fields. The director reinterprets this philosophical play and its desire to discuss - through a personal prism - themes such as alienation, joy, relationships, contact, and conformity.

The Master

This experimental piece is based on music and drama. Its main plot is about loneliness and our own world of illusions. It is about differences and likenesses between illusion and reality. It reflects our inner conflict with the world outside. The Master is an archetype which is a part of our personality. He symbolizes our desire for power over the situations around us. Almost every character hides behind a mask, a proof that humans use different faces in every situation they are in. That leads to confusion about who they really are. The music ensemble is made up of a piano, violoncello, bass clarinet and percussion. The whole theatre space is the stage, so the audience is a part of the performance. The cast is very small because one performer takes on multiple roles.

The House

The production Dům (The House), directed by Zoja Mikotová, is based on the play “The House of Bernarda Alba” by Federico García Lorca. The piece is produced by the atelier Drama in Education for the Deaf. The house is a symbol of many opposing associations – it is a symbol of safety, but also of the mystery of what is hidden inside. This means relationships and emotions – love, desire, sadness, hope, cruelty, or conventions. The destiny of the woman who lives inside the house contains many parallels, thus making the story contemporary. This mostly visual and motion-based production also offers experiences and insights into the memories and ambitions of the performers. Music and sign language are other indispensable means of expression.
